Sustainable interior design is a type of design that prioritizes the use of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient fixtures and appliances, and sustainable practices in the creation of interior spaces. It aims to minimize the negative impact of interior design on the environment while also promoting healthy and comfortable living spaces for occupants.
One of the key principles of sustainable interior design is the use of materials that are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and renewable. Others include the use of energy-efficient lighting and appliances, and putting emphasis on the importance of indoor air quality, which can have a significant impact on the health and well-being of occupants. This means using non-toxic paints, finishes, and cleaning products, as well as incorporating natural ventilation and air purifying plants into the design.
Vegan interior design is a style of decorating and furnishing that avoids the use of any animal products. This means that all materials used in the design must be free of animal-derived components such as leather, wool, silk, feathers, and fur. It also removes many furniture pieces that uses animal base adhesives in the manufacturing process. Vegan interior design is a sustainable and ethical approach that is becoming increasingly popular among conscious consumers who care about the environment, animal welfare, and human health.
Biophilic interior design is a concept that brings nature indoors, creating a harmonious and healthy environment. The term biophilia means "love of life," and the idea behind biophilic design is to create spaces that connect people with nature, improving their physical and mental well-being. It has been shown to have numerous benefits, including improved air quality, reduced stress levels, and increased cognitive function. It is a popular trend, as people are becoming more aware of the importance of sustainability and wellness in their daily lives.

An overview of our process:
Kristen, the founder of WAK Designs is a certified Interior Designer and Decorator. She was led to the low-toxic lifestyle after being faced with two challenges, one; having a young child with anxiety and severe sensory sensitivities and, two; having an unexplained fertility challenge to conceive a second child. Motivated to find natural solutions, Kristen turned to a full home and lifestyle toxic analysis. The result: toxins were everywhere! They were in clothes, cleaning products, food, and toiletries. More surprisingly, toxins were found in furniture, pillows, bed sheets, paint, towels, and the list went on. This information inspired the formation of WAK Design Group. Kristen is a mom of two beautiful boys and has a background in corporate development and interior design. She is certified in Vegan Design, Non-Toxic, Safe & Vegan Baby & Kids Rooms.
